The First MD2 STATE LEO CONFERENCE

The Texas Leo Council held the first MD2
STATE LEO CONFERENCE in Lubbock, Texas on June 5-7, 2009. This was
the first time in recorded history that Texas Leos have come together to
host a conference. The Texas Leo Council, which was chartered in November
of 2008, has worked hard to bring this conference to fruition. They
worked under the guidance of the State Leo Chair, Lion Daisy Butz, their
State Leo Advisory Board and the MD2 Lions Council of Governors to bring
together this historic event.
We are honored to announce that the keynote
speakers at the conference were, International President Al Brandel, Past
International President Lion Jimmy Ross and Past International Director
M.P. Mike Butler.

The opening events began at the Holiday
Inn and Towers in Lubbock, Texas. The “Leo Welcome Center” graciously welcomed
Leos from all across the state of Texas by meeting their fellow Leos in
the Lobby. The Texas Leos enjoyed a little ice breaker starting with
a “Pool and Pizza Party” followed by an “Ice Cream Social.”
The Conference then continued the next
day at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. The first Session held was the
“Leo Opening Session” followed by “Officer Training”. These sessions were
followed by other informative sessions such as the “Lions Charities”, “Strengthening
Exercises For Team Building,” “District Chairperson Training,” “Officer
Training,” “Basics of a Leo Club,” and others.
For lunch the Leos enjoyed a “Picnic in
Mackenzie Park” and played disc golf. After lunch the Texas Leo Council
held their elections for the 2009-2010 officers. There was a Leo
Recessional and Leo Awards Banquet. Afterwards came the event that made
the weekend for many Leos, the Teen Dance.
The Leo Closing Session officially ended
the MD2 STATE LEO CONFERENCE. The Texas Leo Council along with all
of the members of the Texas Leo Program would like to thank all of our
Lion Sponsors for all of their generous donations in helping make this
conference a reality. We would also like to thank all of the District
Chairs and Advisors for their help and support. |
